We are headed to Europe for a Christmas market trip.

Iceland Air is a budget airline with some nice features. As we were flying through the night, an announcement flashed on the movie screen to look out the window because the Northern Lights were out! We enjoyed the “Gin Library,” a collection of fancy gin selections offered for sale.
We decided to break up the long flight between Seattle and Copenhagen with a 9 hour layover in Iceland. We arrived at 6 am; Mary had arranged a car rental so we drove a fancy (upgraded) Peugeot to The Blue Lagoon for a restorative soak. This very popular tourist destination is only 10 miles from the airport.
The lagoon is an enormous geothermal pool, obviously once a natural pool. Now it’s cemented in with large lava rocks around the edges. We walked around to most areas in the pool, seeking out the hot spots, slathering our faces with the mud style treatments offered and enjoying the sunrise that revealed the milky aqua colored water. A poolside bar offered strawberry wine and cider for hydration. After about 3 hours of this decadence we were ready to face the final flight to Copenhagen.

We are staying at an old hotel, the Scandic Palace, in old Copenhagen. The church bells nearby ring every 15 minutes.
